<|>  "Auburn Meeting almost got scammed last Saturday night."

<|>   A man called Beverly saying he was from Birmingham Friends
Meeting, and that he was stranded in Amarillo.  He stated he'd tried to
reach people in Birmingham, as well as the Quaker group in Amarillo
(which he could not find). He asked for help getting back to Birmingham.

<|>  "I attempted unsuccessfully to make contact with Connie LaMonte,
Nancy Whitt and Jim Flege.

<|>  "Preferring to believe that we had someone with a genuine need
rather than being scammed, we proceeded to find out about getting a bus
ticket to Bob (or Richard B. Miller).   ...[but] after further
questioning by a Friend's husband we did not send a ticket."

<|>  Nancy Whitt confirmed that there was no one by that name in
Birmingham Friends Meeting.

<|>  The calls did originate in Amarillo.  Bev received a collect call
and gave 'Bob' her 800 #, so other calls will show up on her bill later.

<|>  "I have determined that the one place where my phone number is
(was) listed was on the Quaker web site."
