Unintended consequences are a part of the human condition. 
It does seem likely that any court rulings that remove legislative restrictions on the definition of marriage will allow everyone to create their own definitions, to include polygamous unions.
How Friends choose to reconcile their own definitions of marriage with the desires of others will be an ongoing process, I am sure.
