| American
ginseng has been prized for centuries as a medicinal plant. Its
dried roots bring prices ranging from $300 to $500 per pound and have
been linked to increased energy and endurance and enhanced sexual
performance. Ginseng has been reported to increase immunity and
may even prevent cancer. As an adaptogen, ginseng restores the
body to harmony and helps it heal itself. In fact, many people
believe that taking ginseng daily can add a decade to your life, so its
unsurprising that one third of the world's people will give one fifith
of their income to take ginseng once a day! The best quality ginseng is woods-grown, like my ginseng. Ginseng can be planted in the appropriate habitat in the woods, either as a seed or as young rootlets. Woods-grown ginseng takes longer to mature (roughly 8 to 12 years from seed), but has a higher concentration of the active chemical. Most high quality ginseng is exported to Asia --- only low quality ginseng is sold on the American market. Due to overcollection, ginseng has become rare in the wild. The plants I offer are first year roots, planted from seed last year. Ginseng grows best in 80% shade, under hardwoods, on north and east facing slopes. |

All plants will be shipped bare-rooted. Your plant may have its leaves cut back for shipping or may be dormant at the time of shipping. Please unpack your plants as soon as possible and soak the roots for at least an hour in water, then plant them as soon as possible. Keep them well watered for the first few weeks as they become established.
All of the photos on this website show plants which have been well established --- your plant can look like this once it has a few weeks or months to get used to its new situation, but please don't expect them to look like this straight out of the box. (Some of the photos show groupings of plants.) All of the plants sold on this page are perennials, so they will enliven your garden year after year!

We want you to be totally happy with your order. Keep in mind that some wilting is natural during shipment of bare-rooted plants. However, if your plants die within 14 days, you may mail the plants back and we will refund your money or replace your plants at our discretion. (You pay return shipping.)
