These Laccaria
ochropurpurea mushrooms were growing
in Roan Mountain State Park. I was captivated by their bulbous
bases, and as I painted they turned into women - the maiden, the
mother, and the crone.

A tiny shelf fungus
growing on a log at Cave Springs Natural Area looked just like a
miniature catcher's mitt, so I couldn't resist putting an acorn in the
palm of its hand.

Dragonfly Nymph Exoskeleton

I found a huge
dragonfly nymph exoskeleton beside Sinking Creek. The dragonfly
was long gone, having pushed its way out of its youthful skin and
turned into a winged predator.

On a trip to New
Mexico, I was captivated by the colors of the desert, and of the adobe
houses which blended in so well. This is a columbine seed pod
found on a mountain east of Albuquerque.
