Each tree is 2-3 feet tall.  You will see larger trees up for sale, but any professional orchardist will tell you that larger trees are likely to take _longer_ to fruit.  It's impossible to dig up all of a larger tree's roots, so they take longer to become established.  These trees are just the right size to make a good start.  They will only be shipped in November through March while they are dormant.

Paw paws will not self pollinate, so you need at least two trees to ensure fruit set.  The three trees included in this order will be enough to ensure pollination.

Paw paws are also known as West Virginia Bananas due to their huge leaves (up to a foot long), delicious fruits, and maroon flowers.  The large leaves give the plant a tropical look and turn bright yellow in the fall.  The 2-5" long fruits remind me of a mix between a banana and a mango.  The fruit is an excellent source of vitamins A and C when eaten raw or cooked into desserts.

At maturity, the trees will reach 15 - 30 feet tall and will have a spread of about 20 feet.  Although they can grow in any lighting condition from full sun to full shade, you will see fruits faster if you plant them in the sun (but be sure to keep them well watered during their first few years.)

All plants will be shipped bare-rooted.  Your plant may have its leaves cut back for shipping or may be dormant at the time of shipping.  Please unpack your plants as soon as possible and soak the roots for at least an hour in water, then plant them as soon as possible.  Keep them well watered for the first few weeks as they become established.

All of the photos on this website show plants which have been well established --- your plant can look like this once it has a few weeks or months to get used to its new situation, but please don't expect them to look like this straight out of the box.  (Some of the photos show groupings of plants.)  All of the plants sold on this page are perennials, so they will enliven your garden year after year!

Once you are ready to order, you can download and fill out Wetknee Farm's Order Spreadsheet.  Drop me an email when you want to order.  You can pay with paypal, check, or credit card (through paypal.)

We want you to be totally happy with your order.  Keep in mind that some wilting is natural during shipment of bare-rooted plants.  However, if your plants die within 14 days, you may mail the plants back and we will refund your money or replace your plants at our discretion.  (You pay return shipping.)
