In RL I'm at the farm, offline, stuck at the bottom of a half mile of impassable hillside with 5 inches of snow on the ground. I'm taking a break from enjoying the snow and warming up, tinkering on my laptop.

I have a moo in there, since I'm not very imaginitive when it comes to building moos, it's a cave. In honor of the season, I code up a snowball class and make some snowballs; pity there's noone in here with me to have a snowball fight with.

I go up to the entrance to the cave, which is barred by a big metal gate. It's locked. I look out of the cave into a forest, but I can't get the gate open.

Later, IRL I return to town and walk into my house. Laptop associates with the wireless network. When I check the moo a bit later, I'm in my house there too. I make a few more snowballs and put them in the freezer for later. The fridge informs me that I need milk, and I make a note to get some next time I'm out IRL.

I go into my media room, grab a few tracks and put them on the media player. IRL, music plays from the speakers in my living room. I go to my lab and get back to tweaking the snowballs a bit, giving them more realistic impacts when they hit various surfaces and optimising the trajectory calculation code by rewriting parts of it in C.

After a while the doorbell rings, it's my friend DeadRabbit and he gets a snowball right between the eyes. I give him a couple to make up for that. He gives me some songs, assuring me they're legal, and also a virtual fruitcake he cooked up, it being near to xmas and all. We go over to his house for a bit.

Uh oh, IRL some lines must have gone done; my cable internet dies; everything fades to black and I'm back home. Oh well, I pop DeadRabbit's songs in my ipod (IRL my ipod sucks them off of my solar powered wireless NAS/router where they've been cached and begins playing) and nibble on the fruitcake.

(Let's also explain DeadRabbit's perspective on this: He might have gone down to the cave behind my house while I was away, and been unable to get in. He probably knew I was offline anyway, since he has a locator device that tells him which friends are available. If he comes back while the internet's down, my house and the cave enterance will be there, but both will be closed off. The snowballs I gave him continue to work (ideally).)
