The Register of Livingstone and MacLea Emigrants

  1. David Peter Livingstone (aka Living, Levinge, and perhaps Livitch, Levidge, etc) was from Kinnettles in Angus, although a record of his baptism has not been found. He emigrated to Australia in 1838 on the Portland, after having married Lily Melrose in Canongate, Edinburgh, that same year. His family are thought to have been present in Glamis for many generations before the 19th century.   2. David Wyse Livingston born in 1910 in Edinburgh, Scotland and his family immigrated in/around 1949 to the United States. They settled in Manchester N.H. (Added by David Wyse Livingston, grandson, Tucson, Arizona, USA.)

  3. William Livingston (1799-1888) born in Port on Monteith, Perthshire, Scotland immigrated to Canada with his wife Isabella Bremner in 1821 and settled in the Lanark County area of Ontario before settling in the Renfrew County area of Ontario. One of his grandsons, James Naismith Livingstone immigrated from Canada to the United States and would end up settling in Washington State.   4. Alexander McClay (aka McClea) born 1804 Ardmore, Cullin, Londonderry, Ulster. (Added by Ian Ross.)

  5. John McClay born in Augnish townland, near town of Ramelton, Donegal, Ireland, and his son David McClay born in Ards, Conwal townland, also near the town of Ramelton, Donegal, Ireland, immigrated 1847-8 with other family members to the USA and settled in the State of Illinois.   6. James Brown MacLea (1859-1926) born in Glasgow, Scotland, and immigrated with his wife Margaret Turner to the USA, settling first in Chicago, then later Paterson, New Jersey, and eventually after Maggie's death in and around the city of Boston, Massachusetts. This large group of MacLeas remain concentrated in Massachusetts, but have spread from there. (Added by Kyle Scott MacLea.)
