Thanks for clearing that up. The story quotes him as saying:
"So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after
six decades, was painful and difficult."
Sounds like Jimmy needed to say "in 2000". I missed the earlier

Jimmy Carter actually broke with the Southern Baptists in 2000. So, the
reason you aren't seeing this in many news outlets is because it isn't news.

Got this news from the Atlanta Meeting Discussion list (thank you Julia) and
thought that SAYMA Friends would appreciate reading the letter Jimmy Carter
wrote about how women are not second class citizens and he can't be part of
a group that treats them as such.
The patriarchy gets exposed by such actions. Thank you Jimmy for
explaining it in such Christian terms.
