Hello SAYMA Friends,
This weekend I was informed by Susan Cozzens, the Clerk of the AFSC's
Southern Regional Executive Committee, that Bonnie Horton, whom some of you
met at yearly meeting, has resigned her position as AFSC's Southern Regional
Director. Please see the emails below for more details and to see what is
being done to keep the region in good hands while the search for a new
Regional Director is set in place.

Let me take this opportunity to thank Bonnie very much for her contributions
to the formation of the region, and wish her the best in her new endeavors.
I also look forward to working with Ann in her interim role. She has
affirmed that strategic planning will move forward as we discussed on the
phone last week. I will distribute a sample of another regional plan soon.

I want to let you know about a major change in the South Region.
This morning in a call with South Region staff, Regional Director, Bonnie
Erica Horton, announced her resignation, effective today. She has decided
to pursue other interests along the lines of her passion for healing and
restorative justice work, youth and conflict resolution and the challenges
facing refugees in adapting to life in the USA. I have appreciated her
efforts to learn about and guide AFSC work in the region, and will miss her.
South Region staff join me to wish her well in her future endeavors.
Starting immediately, Ann Lennon, who has some 20 years of experience
working as Area Program Coordinator for the Carolinas will become Interim
Regional Director. She had stepped in to the Interim Associate Regional
Director role several months ago when Brooke Fritz went out on maternity
leave. Ann brings a great deal of program experience to the tasks ahead,
and is well known in AFSC for her outstanding contributions to many
cross-AFSC taskforces and collaborative program efforts, from Wage Peace to
the new digital story-telling initiative with youth.
Staff in the region have pledged to pull together to support each other and
Ann. Lucio Perez-Reynoso, Lori Fernald-Khamala, Videsia Green and Rick
Wilson will form a leadership management team to work with Ann during this
time of transition.
Bonnie will be available to Ann over the next several weeks for any
assistance she can provide, and Brooke Fritz will also help Ann with
specific needs over the next several months. A search for the new regional
director will be started as soon as possible. Susan Cozzens, Clerk of the
South Region Executive Committee has been informed and involved in the
strategy for interim management and search process, and will be in
communication with EC members about the transition.
I am grateful that Deputy General Secretary Hector Cortez will be working
closely with Ann and regional staff over the next month, as I prepare for
the transition to the new Associate General Secretary for US Regions, Laura
Please join me in wishing Bonnie well in the future, and in welcoming Ann to
her new role and responsibilities.
