Here is an opportunity for all First Day Schools throughout the Yearly Meeting.
Please pass this along to the appropriate people in your Monthly Meeting.
> My daughter, Kallan Benson, is a young Friend from Annapolis. She is working to ensure that the youth voice is heard on the issue of climate change. In 2017, she took on a project to illustrate kids' concerns about climate change. In 6 weeks, 1600 kids added messages and signatures to her 24' play parachute, bringing vibrant color to a giant monarch flying over the world. That butterfly beat its wings in the People's Climate March in Washington, DC last April.
> This year, she is seeking assistance to take the idea world-wide. She is collaborating with Parachutes for the Planet (http://motherearthproject.org/parachutes/ <http://motherearthproject.org/parachutes/>), a global art project to represent and amplify youth voices about the future of our world.
> The initiative is inviting kids all over the world to express their concerns about climate change on circular banners. Their original artwork is contributing to an accumulating collection of "parachutes" to be displayed in massive exhibits around the world to inspire action and protect the future of our planet.
> Kallan is working to have parachutes designed and made by youth from across the United States. If you are involved with a First Day school class or other school or youth group, please encourage them to participate in this project.
> The first display is scheduled for Washington, DC on April 22, 2018, but please don't be deterred by that time frame. Future exhibits are being explored, so artwork will continue to be welcomed and displayed.
> The attached video <https://youtu.be/N94t4sXtxmY> provides a project explanation, sources for further information, and a banner-making tutorial.
> If you have any questions or need any further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or Kallan.
