Earlham School of Religion
Richmond, Indiana
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Earlham School of religion (ESR) seeks candidates for a full-time
teaching faculty appointment in Christian Spirituality.  Candidates must be
able to apply knowledge of the tradition of Christian Spirituality in a
seminary setting.  Specifically, candidates must know and appreciate the
Quaker tradition of spirituality.  The applicant will teach six courses per
year, such as Spiritual Preparation for Ministry, History of Christian
Spirituality, Prayer, Feminist Spirituality, Quaker Spirituality, Spiritual
Direction, Commitment and Discipleship, and will develop courses relevant to
their own interests.  We seek candidates with both academic and practical
experience in the area of Spirituality.  Academic preparation should include
the M.Div., and a Ph.D. in spirituality or related fields is preferred.
Teaching experience and practice in spiritual direction is necessary.
The School of Religion is a seminary of the Religious Society of Friends,
though about 1/3 of the students are other than Quaker.  ESR has about 75
students and is part of Earlham, sharing its campus with Earlham College, a
respected liberal arts college of about 1000 students.  ESR is also in
partnership with Bethany theological Seminary of the Church of the Brethren,
with a student body comparable in size to ESR's.  Teaching faculty are
expected to be part of the campus life, participating in worship and
on-campus events as well as relating to the constituencies of the seminary.
Applicants from the Religious Society of Friends, women, and minorities are
encouraged to apply.  Applications will begin to be reviewed in January and
the search will continue until the position is filled, though it is
desirable that the position be filled in fall or spring of the 2000-2001
academic year.
A cover letter explaining interest in the position, vita, and the names of
three references are to be sent to:
