IMP ^o^ Bulletin 054
"Southern Appalachian Friend"
Newsletter Editor Needed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from a 5-1-00 message from Penelope Wright, SAYMA Clerk, for the SAYMA
Nominating Committee)
<|>    SAYMA seeks a person led to fill the role of Newsletter Editor
for the "Southern Appalachian Friend."
<|>    For some years the duties of the SAF newsletter editor have been
held concurrently with the position of the Administrative Assistant.
However its publication is not formally one of the duties of the AA and
our current AA does not see her way clear to combine the duties.
<|>    "Southern Appalachian Friend" is the official newsletter for
SAYMA, and is published quarterly in synchrony with our representative
and yearly meetings.
<|>    Initiated as a means of connecting our constituent Monthly
Meetings and Worship Groups, it serves as a forum for communication of
our news, events, and concerns.
<|>    Additionally, articles about wider Quaker interests and personal
spiritual experiences are encouraged.
<|>    The editor:
1.  Assembles, edits, has printed, and mails at least four issues
annually.
    - In addition to news and articles from Monthly Meetings, Worship
Groups, and individuals, the first issue primarily reports on the
recently held Yearly Meeting and contains the epistle and census for
that year and includes the date and place of Fall Representative
Meeting.
    - In addition to news and articles from Monthly Meetings, Worship
Groups, and individuals, the second issue reports on the proceedings and
decisions of the Fall Representative Meeting including the theme for the
next Yearly Meeting and includes the date and place of the Winter
Representative Meeting.
    - In addition to news and articles from Monthly Meetings, Worship
Groups, and individuals, the third issue reports on the proceedings and
decisions of the Winter Representative Meeting and provides advance
notice of the plans for upcoming Yearly Meeting. It also includes the
date and place of the Spring Representative Meeting.
    - the fourth issue reports on the proceedings and decisions of the
Spring Representative Meeting and traditionally contains advance program
information, and registration materials, for Yearly Meeting. (Assumes
coordination with the Yearly Meeting Planning Committee)
2.  Collaborates with correspondents appointed by Monthly Meetings and
Worship Groups.
3.  Using labels provided by the SAYMA office, batch mails the
newsletters directly to the Monthly Meetings and Worship Groups, who
will each maintain their own recipient lists and distribute the
newsletters.  Coordinates with the office in mailing SAF to isolated
Friends.
4. Understands that the newsletter is an important historical record of
SAYMA, destined for Quaker collections and should ensure that the cover
is clearly marked with name, address and purpose. At the end of each
year a summary report of the year's publications will be included.
5.  Does not bear the costs of the newsletter, but is reimbursed for
documented expenses.
<|>    Interested persons should contact Lee Ann Swarm, Nominating
Committee Clerk.
