There wouldn't be any financial support available from SAYMA, but maybe
individual MM's might support someone to go.

Dear Friends--

Attached is a flyer for a conference the FGC Advancement Committee is
co-sponsoring: "Be Patterns, Be Examples"--and Publicize as Well. It
will be held the weekend of September 14-16 at Powell House, the New
York Yearly Meeting conference center near Albany. We hope this will be
an opportunity for us to share experiences and ideas, and to talk about
how our yearly meeting outreach committees can support each other more
effectively. The cost for the weekend is $160. If you cannot attend,
are there others from your yearly meeting who might be interested? You
can connect to the Powell House website at www.powellhouse.org for more
information, or contact me at this address. I look forward to hearing
from you, or seeing you there!

Warm regards, Deborah Haines

A Weekend on Quaker Outreach Led by Peggy Morscheck
September 14-16, 2001

This weekend, co-sponsored by the FGC Advancement & Outreach Committee
and NYYM's Advancement Committee, has three objectives:

      1. To broaden and deepen our concepts about Quaker outreach
      2. To increase our knowledge of ways to do outreach
      3. To strengthen ties among those concerned with outreach among

We will begin with an in-depth look at Quaker outreach. More than just
posting signs and submitting occasional newspaper articles, Quaker
outreach is most effective as a beneficial by-product of effectively
bearing witness to our beliefs and modeling our practices. Some of the
philosophical and spiritual underpinnings of outreach will be examined,
as will the contexts that meetings might use in considering the full
range of spiritual hospitality - visibility, but also accessibility,
welcoming and responsive retention of new attenders.

The weekend will include time for sharing and discussion of local
successes and experiences in outreach. Participants are encouraged to
bring examples, stories and multi-media demonstrations to inspire and
nurture us in being Publishers of Truth. Beyond strengthening our ties,
the weekend will include time to work together as representatives of a
broad range of yearly meetings, and monthly meetings taking a look at
how Quakers can better address society's requests for public education,
public information, and public relations regarding the Religious Society
of Friends. This done, outreach will happen.

Peggy Morscheck has been the Director of the Quaker Information Office
in Philadelphia since it began in 1990. Peggy is a member of Central
Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. She feels particularly charged at this
time to a) meet the needs, interests and curiosity of non-Quakers
regarding the Religious Society of Friends, b) practice spiritual
hospitality at all times, and c) promote a much more active and
effective ecumenical awareness, including interaction, among the various
branches of Friends

Cost: $160 adults, $80 children & teens (2-17), $40 infants
